Sunday 26 February 2023
We had a full-on day today, with several new students. We achieved 47 launches, some decent soaring flights and a conversion. The three two seaters were out, together with three single seaters, including Mark Durden’s newly acquired ASW 15 (JPX).
The last weekend of February often brings the first real thermal soaring flights and this was probably the best February day I can remember. SkySight predicted it well and the Lasham pundits managed 350km, recorded a 5,000ft cloud base and 6.8 knot averages.
Thanks to Laurence for keeping a firm grip on activities and to those who did long stints on the winch.
Congratulations to Humza Hamid on being awarded the Rex Pilcher Trophy at the BGA Conference for 2022’s earliest 500km by a pilot who has not flown 500km before.
