The expedition headed to the airfield with high hopes on the basis of a strong forecast. As did much of the airfield users, with a large grid formed from 07:30.

Unfortunately, it was deemed to be too turbulent to launch due to the wind gradient and, after hanging around for much of the day and a sacrificial lamb tug sent to survey the conditions, the day was called and packing up commenced.

A few members then headed to Ballater to look at the red maple and the local bookshop. It was not the classic Aboyne day that was promised, but the expedition is now up and running.
